Enable the Children is a voluntary organisation and the only way the work can continue is through the generous donations of people who want to share our vision of providing community therapy to children and their families in Sierra Leone.
We have a partnership with Links International charity who deal with all our finances and international transfers. They make account and give receipt of all donations received and sent.
If you feel you could donate any amount of money, regularly or as a one off gift, please use the link below and print the form. How your money is used
People often ask us how much things cost in Sierra Leone. The encouraging news is that British Pounds go a long way out there. £1 makes approximately 5500 Leones. So it's easy to be a millionaire!
However, on a more serious note, when money is donated to ~Enable the Children~ here are some of the typical things we have to pay for:
Special equipment
£25 will pay for a special chair to be built by our carpenter. £30 a standing frame. £8 will pay for a pair of leg splints (gaiters) made by a blacksmith from metal and a tailor sews them together. We have also been involved in modifications to houses and surrounding areas to make them more accessible, such as ramps or bridges. This is a costly ordeal, but worth doing well for the safety and freedom of our children.
Landrover
Approx £75 is spent on fuel per month to get around to our patients in their own homes Unfortunately Bertie our Landrover is very old and that combined with the bad roads often leads to expensive repairs. So funds are always needed for this.
Salaries
£85 is the combined salary for our Rehab Assist and driver per month (both part-time)
Office Rent
£54 is our monthly rent for our NEW office base
International Staff expenses
All international staff work entirely voluntarily. They are dependant on kind donations so that they can live safely and continue the work of ~Enable the Children~ effectively. It is a huge sacrifice to give up being close to family and friends, paid jobs and home lives. Basic Accommodation costs approx £60 per month. Flights approx £650 return. Visa £100
Assistance Fund
We often assist our families with other expenses towards their disabled child, transport money to get to a good doctor if they become acutely unwell, sometimes school fees, or even assistance with money for food. There have also been occasions where we have tried to help a family start a business in order to make their own money.
This is not our area of expertise but sometimes, where we feel lead and where we have got to know that family well, needs must. These monies we take from our 'Assistance fund'.
